Almost everyone asks this first, usually before we have the tape measure out. When the texture is matched to the wall around it, and the patch is primed and painted out to a natural break, a good repair can't be seen under normal room light.
There are limits, and we will tell you about them up front. Lighting matters. A patch you can't see under a ceiling light can show a faint shadow when low sunlight comes in from the side through a window. Paint sheen matters too, because gloss and semi-gloss paint reflect more light and show more than flat paint. If a wall has faded unevenly over the years, a fresh patch can look slightly different even when the texture is right. When a patch is large or the lighting is harsh, the better option is to re-texture and repaint the whole wall, corner to corner, so it all matches, instead of trying to match one small area of new work. We will tell you which approach your wall needs before we start.
